Jatakarma Samskar Puja after Baby Birth
- Madhu-Grita Prashana The father feeds the newborn baby a tiny amount of honey that is mixed with ghee and has a gold ornament dipped in it using his ring finger. This is considered to be the baby’s first food, believed to grant intelligence, strength, and longevity. Specific mantras are recited during this.
- Mantra Whispering The father gently whispers several Vedic mantras in the baby’s right ear. These include prayers for life (Ayushman), intelligence (Medha Sukta), and protection (Raksha). This creates the first spiritual sound imprint on the newborn baby’s consciousness.
- Umbilical Cord Cutting It is traditionally performed by experienced elders with mantras for purity and health. The cord is treated with turmeric or herbal paste. In modern times, this procedure is done by medical professionals, and the father recites the mantras separately.
- First Bath & Protection Rituals The baby is bathed in medical herbal water and protective amulets are tied on their limbs. Prayers are offered for health and divine protection from negative influences.
