The name “Navachandi” comes from combination of two words “Nava,” meaning nine, and “Chandi,” a fierce form of the Goddess. This ritual is generally performed to seek blessings from the nine forms of Goddess Durga, known as Navadurga. Process of Navachandi Homa:

Navachandi Homa is a complex ritual that requires the expertise of professional Vedic pandits. The ritual usually lasts several hours and involves various stages of worship, chanting of mantras, and offerings to the sacred fire. 

Sankalpa: Under the guidance of pandits, the devotee makes a vow or resolves to perform the homa with a specific intention & pure heart to seek divine protection, success, or spiritual growth.

Ganpati Puja: The ritual begins with the worship of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, to ensure the smooth and successful completion of the homa.

Kalasha Sthapana: The installation of the Kalash placed on a heap of rice, surrounded by mango leaves, and topped with a coconut by the pandit symbolizes the presence of the divine. 

Navagraha Puja: The Navagrahas are worshiped to seek their blessings and remove any malefic influences.

Navachandi Puja: During the main puja, the pandits invove in the invocation of the nine forms of Goddess Durga by chanting of the Durga Saptashati, a powerful collection of 700 verses from the Markandeya Purana. This scripture narrates the various battles fought by Goddess Durga against demons and her ultimate victory over them.

Homa: This is the most important part of the ritual, where the divine energy of Goddess Chandi is invoked into the sacred fire. The pandits offer various sacred items like ghee, herbs, grains, and samidha into the fire while chanting powerful mantras from the Durga Saptashati. 

Purnahuti: The ritual ends with the Purnahuti, where the final offerings are made to the fire. During this, the devotees pray for the fulfillment of their desires and the removal of all obstacles from their lives.

Aarti: The last part of the after purnahuti is Aarti done by devotees under the guidance of pandits,further carried on by  distribution of Prasad to all participants.
