Hiranyakashipu’s son, on the other hand, became a devout devotee of Lord Vishnu. From a young age, Prahlada displayed an unshakable faith in Lord Vishnu, and often taught others about devotion and dharma. An enraged Hiranyakashipu tried multiple times to dissuade him from worshipping Lord Vishnu through threats, punishments, and at last, attempts to kill him. Prahlada, in spite of these ongoing threats, remained calm and steadfast, constantly chanting and placing his trust in Lord Vishnu.
One day, in a fit of rage, Hiranyakashipu asked Prahlad mockingly, “If your Vishnu is everywhere is he present in this pillar too?” Enraged, Hiranyakashipu struck the pillar with his mace, and in his shock, the pillar cracked open, with Lord Narasimha emerging from it.
Lord Narasimha was neither fully a man mor animal, appearing with the body of a man and the head and claws of a lion. This formed was chosen by Lord Vishnu to end demon king Hiranyakashipu’s tyranny.
At sunset, Sri Narasimha dragged the demon king to the threshold of the palace, often considered neither inside nor outside. There, he placed Hiranyakashipu on his lap, which was neither land, water, nor sky, and tore him apart using his claws, which were neither weapons nor tools. Thus, the demon king was slain, and Sri Narasimha restored peace to the universe.
